Winning the Little Battles

Did You Know?

The average adult gains about 1.5 pound of body fat per year-maybe slightly less.

1.5 pound is 5250 calories.

5250 calories when divided over one year is about 14 CALORIES PER DAY.

How easy is it to burn 15 calories in one day?

How about....

Standing for five minutes?

Or walking your dog for five minutes?

Five minutes of housework?

Five minutes of mini-golf?

Now if you want to get into some serious exertion....I am talking like 30 calories now.... so be careful....:-)

How about...

Five minutes cutting the grass....

Five minutes of easy swimming...

Five minutes of easy bike riding....

This guy is probably burning at least 50 calories.....

What does this all mean?  It shows us little things really add up OVER TIME.

OVER TIME is how most people gain weight although it may not seem that way.

Cut out a little cream in your coffee (about 50 calories), quit ordering cheese on your sandwich (about 100 calories), or eat one less slice of bread (about 70 calories) per day, and it is pretty easy to maintain your weight.

Losing weight is more challenging.  But the same principles apply.

Increase activity levels. Look for areas to reduce calories.  Making small, lasting changes over time can help make your success permanent.

Here's to Winning the Little Battles in 2010....
